Post-Impressionist French Artists - Édouard-Léon Cortès

Edouard Léon Cortès (1882–1969) was a post-impressionist artist of French and Spanish ancestry.
He is known as "Le Poete Parisien de la Peinture" or "the Parisian Poet of Painting" because of his diverse Paris cityscapes in a variety of weather and night settings.

After studying at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts between the ages of 17 and 22, he exhibited for the first time at the Salon of 1902, where he presented the streets of Paris at night: paintings which enabled him to win immense success.
He became a member of the Society of French Artists and exhibited his paintings there every year.
During the year 1915, he received a silver medal at the Salon des Artistes Français and a gold medal at the Salon des Indépendants. He mostly painted Parisian landscapes where he most often looked for the effects of the time of day or night, the effects of meteorology, the seasons: morning, evening, rain, snow, etc.

All his life, he sought to improve his style and technique.

Unlike his contemporaries, he did not offer his master services, although many artists claimed to have studied with him.
